Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy is recruiting Street Angel volunteers now!
We are looking to recruit around 40 new Street Angels for Friday and Saturday nights. In this exciting role working with vulnerable people in Guildford town centre, you can help keep people safe and make a real difference to rates of crime and antisocial behaviour in our town. We promise you it will be both fun and rewarding. To apply just download our application pack, fill in the short application form and send it back to us at the address provided before the end of June 2010.
At the heart of the Guildford Street Angels programme are values of honesty, integrity, selflessness, being non-judgemental, excellence, professionalism and collaboration. Street Angels are men and women volunteers from all kinds of backgrounds who commit to these values. They can be any age from 18 upwards: our oldest volunteer is 78 and our youngest is in his early twenties. They volunteer for all kinds of reasons but most of all because it is fun!
All Street Angels will be provided with a distinctive uniform and will need to commit to being “on duty” one night each month from 10pm to around 4am: you can choose if you want to do Fridays, Saturdays or a mixture of both. All volunteers need to complete six training sessions covering issues such as: roles and responsibilities; personal safety; relating effectively; drugs and alcohol; safeguarding and working practices. This training will run during May and early June 2009: on Saturdays during the day and on a week day evenings (you will be able to choose which you prefer to attend). A volunteer pack is also provided to and further “top-up” training is available every 4 to 6 months.
If you’re interested in volunteering as a Street Angel or just want to find out more please download our application pack. References and Criminal Records Bureau checks are required.
Why not take a step of faith and give it a go! As Christ said:
“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)
