GTCC Kilimanjaro Challenge 2010

In conjunction with the Really Wild Travel Company, we are running two fundraising trips in 2010 to the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania and we’d love you to take part!

During this two-week trip you’ll spend 6 days summiting Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, along the Machame route , which will give you the best opportunity for acclimatisation.  The climb will take you up and away from the rolling plains of Moshi, through dense cloud forest, moorland and ultimately reaching the alpine zone. Throughout this, a team of local guides and porters will be there to provide you with everything you’ll need to make it to the top.  To find out more see our information pack.

We’re also keen that this should not just be tourist experience and we’d like you to leave having had a real experience of Tanzanian life and culture. For the rest of the trip you’ll undertake a 5-day placement with one of our two partner-charities in the Moshi region, with whom we’ll share some of the funds you raise.

Mkombozi
A charity based in Kilimanjaro region working with street children in Moshi and Arusha. Here you’ll be introduced to the harsh reality of the Tanzanian streets and have the opportunity to use your own talents and interests in their outreach programmes.

UNCODET A small, locally run NGO in Uru North District, Kilimanjaro region. Here you’ll undertake a construction- or renovation-focused project around the district.

More information can be found in our placement information sheet

When?

The dates for the two trips will be as follows:

26th June - 9th July 2010
14th August - 28th August 2010

How do I pay for it?

To pay for the trip the fundraising target is £2349 (plus a £250 deposit) which includes at least £1000 for GTCC and our Tanzanian partner-charities. This includes full-board accommodation, flights and transfers.  Alternatively, you can pay for the trip yourself (£1349 plus £250 deposit), in which case your fundraising target will be £1000.
